Carl Molesworth

Carl Molesworth is the author of 15 non-fiction books covering various aspects of World War II aviation. He has specialized in telling the stories of American and Chinese fighter units in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II and in the operations of the Curtiss P-40 worldwide.

Molesworth’s first book was Wing To Wing, which told the story of the Chinese-American Composite Wing, was published in 1990. His collaboration with high-scoring American ace Francis Gabreski, Gabby, was a first-person account of air combat over Europe and Korea. Next came Sharks Over China, the first full account of the USAAF 23rd Fighter Group’s operations over China. Previous titles also include three books in Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces series, three in the Elite Units series, two in the Duel series, and two in the Air Vanguard series. Flying Tiger Ace is his first hard-cover book for Osprey.

Book reviewer Kelly Jamison, writing in 2016 for the popular web site cybermodeler.com, said this: “If you have an interest in aircraft of the CBI or the Flying Tigers, Carl Molesworth is the author you should seek out. I consider him the undisputed champion on the subject.”

A graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in English and minor in History, Molesworth was an award-winning journalist for 35 years before transitioning to full-time book writing. Carl served as an enlisted radar operator in the United States Air Force, 1968-72. He lives with his wife, Kris, and their two dogs in Petaluma, CA, USA. His daughter, Claire, and her family live also in California.
